Freak Hailstorm Buries Guadalajara (PHOTOS)

Hail accumulated up to nearly five feet thick in areas of Guadalajara, Mexico, after a severe hailstorm Sunday.

The hail buried vehicles, blocked roads and trapped residents inside their homes. The storm lasted only an hour, but caused a river of hail in the roads, crippling the city. The area is still dealing with the damage on Monday.

"We are doing hail removal work and also verifying the buildings that were affected by hail," the head of the State Unit for Civil Protection and Firefighters of Jalisco said according to local news source, Vallart Daily. Officials called in the military to clear roads of the thick ice.

Local officials reported flooding and fallen trees, but no injuries have been reported, according to BBC. About 200 homes have been damaged in the storm.

The hailstorm occurred as local temperatures quickly dropped nearly 20 degrees.
